Travis County Clerk Issues Same-Sex Marriage License

Austin, TX February 19, 2015 – Today, State District Judge David Wahlberg ordered Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir to issue a marriage license to a lesbian couple after their lawyer petitioned a Travis County judge to rule against the state law and waive the 72-hour waiting period. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a request earlier this week with the Texas Supreme Court to stay a similar court ruling issued by a Travis County judge on the issue of same-sex ‘marriage’.

Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values, issued the following statement in response:

“The Texas Supreme Court needs to step in immediately and put a stop to this lawlessness and clear disrespect and defiance towards our marriage laws. This rogue ruling is just more evidence that supporters of redefining marriage refuse to play by the rules and some judges and clerks will do anything to advance their own agenda. This is exactly why state legislators are working on laws to hold government officials accountable when they violate our Texas marriage laws.”

Texas Values continues to be the leading voice and force in protecting marriage between one man and one woman in Texas. Texas Values was at the oral argument on Texas’ marriage case at the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this month.
