President Obama will be in Austin, today, reportedly talking about education. You’ll recall, his Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, released a statement about Texas’ social studies standards, on the same day the final standards were approved. It’s nearly impossible to believe Secretary Duncan read the standards or had correct information about the standards. But that didn’t stop Obama’s education chief from launching a desperate attack on Texas. His statement said that these decisions are “local” issues and “politics” should be left out.
Secretary Duncan should follow his own advice and stop attacking local control by trying to force states, like Texas, from being force to accept nationalized curriculum standards with President Obama’s “Race to the Top” initiative.
